Legislative Council appointed to examine into the provisions of the Marriage Ordinance, and in their Report, which was adopted, they expressed a hope that should the Colonial Chaplain's anticipated loss be realised, the Government would favorably entertain his application for compensation.
Mr. Kidd now writes to say that his loss has been about £40 during the last year, and he proposes that the Government should pay him Five hundred Dollars down, as compensation for all past and prospective losses. This proposal I submitted for the consideration of the Unofficial Members of the Legislative Council, and I have now the honor to inform Your Lordship that under the circumstances they unanimously are of opinion that Mr. Kidd's offer be accepted, and I have accordingly informed Mr. Kidd that compensation to that amount will be allowed him.
